28-year-old identified as man fatally shot during argument in Birmingham’s Railroad Park

Authorities have released the name of a man fatally shot during an argument inside Railroad Park last weekend.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the victim as Morgan Tyree Martin. He was 28.

The shooting happened about 8:50 p.m. Sunday at the park in the 1600 block of First Avenue South. Officers working at and near the park heard shots fired and responded.

Lt. Ron Harless said the gunfire appeared to stem from an altercation between two men. The shooting took place near the park’s pavilion area right off First Avenue South.

Martin was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

D’Quan Arnes Wilson, 20, is charged with murder in Martin’s slaying.

He is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald on Friday said police encourage anyone who encounters an issue with another person in the park to immediately notify a park ranger in person or by call 205-613-2504.

Also, CAP can be reached at 205-251-0111.

In cases of an emergency, he said, call 911.
